PRESS RELEASE
Robert Plant
and The Strange Sensation
With
Special Guests
Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre
Friday, September 23rd - 7:30pm
(doors 6:30pm)
Rare is the
veteran rock musician who
doesn't have to rely on his back
catalogue to fill concert halls.
But, with his new album
Mighty ReArranger,
Robert Plant's rich
legacy as the voice of the most
revolutionary, if not the
biggest, rock band in the world,
is merely a footnote. Indeed,
the former Led Zeppelin howler
and his new band Strange
Sensation were such a hit at
this year's South by Southwest
music conference in Austin, it
has been noted that rockers a
quarter of Plant's age
simply got on a plane and left
without playing a note.
With good reason; one listen to
Mighty ReArranger reveals
Plant, at 56, is just now
hitting his stride. Drawing out
the best qualities of his
extraordinary voice by
surrounding it with rich Middle
Eastern textures, blues accents,
psychedelic atmospheres and
dazzling polyrhythmic swirls,
the disc is a testament to
Plant's musical curiosity,
and sets a criminally high
standard for other rockers in
his position. It's a higher
energy, sharper and more focused
record than his previous
release, 2002's Dreamland, and
is so densely layered that the
disc unfolds differently with
each listen. Plant's fans
have come to expect mature,
challenging work from this
master of song, and Mighty
ReArranger delivers all that
and more-including a
radio-friendly title track.
So forget for a moment that, as
one fourth of Led Zeppelin,
Plant sold millions upon
millions of records, changed the
face of popular music forever,
created a whole new musical
language and established a
world-wide fanbase as large and
devoted as that of any other
rock band. Listen to Mighty
ReArranger and hear an
artist that has never lost his
passion for music, and who has
moved comfortably into the
middle stage of his career while
maintaining the quality and
integrity that made him a
superstar in the first place.
