Has it really been twenty
years since Outskirts, Blue
Rodeo’s debut, introduced this
Toronto band to the rest of
Canada? It has, and nine albums
later, Blue Rodeo is as vital
and creative as when founding
members and high school buddies
Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy first
put the band together.
Are You Ready, the group’s 10th
album and the follow up to
2002’s Palace of Gold, is set to
be released April 5th, with the
first single, “Rena” making it’s
way onto the airwaves
mid-February. “Rena” has just
been picked as a Canadian Music
Network Power Pick. In
celebration of the group’s 20th
Anniversary, they released the
DVD Blue Rodeo In Stereo Vision,
which is fast approaching 2X
Platinum and was recently
nominated for the 2005 Juno for
Music DVD Of The Year.
From inspired rockers and
distortion-driven jams to
lonesome prairie balladry and
alternative country, Blue Rodeo
have mastered all the flavours
of roots-rock to become one of
Canada’s best-loved bands. Its
passionate and ever-expanding
fan-base, meanwhile, guarantees
a full house of folks happy to
sing along to favourites tunes
like “Hasn’t Hit Me Yet”
whenever this multiple Juno
Award-winning act hits town.
Recently nominated for both the
2005 Juno for New Artist Of The
Year as well as Adult
Alternative Album Of The Year
are special guests Matt Mays &
El Torpedo.
A band that is synonymous with
Canadian roots-rock, Blue Rodeo
may be an institution but its
musical fire continues
undiminished. Witness Blue Rodeo
live on their Are You Ready tour
on Thursday, April 14th at the
Save On Foods Memorial Centre.
